He's doing his JOB. Not a hero. Not an exemplary person. Just a guy doing what he gets PAID WELL to do. Plus, this is more than likely listed as COSMETIC, so it wouldn't be covered under an insurance plan..... If its free, then yes...this is nice.
We don't really know his mix of motivations in starting this business (how much for gain, how much to help others) so while you're right that we can't assume he's a saint, we can't assume it's "just a job" either.
The wonderful thing though, is that it doesn't matter! Those who get these prostheses feel the cost is "worth it" perhaps many times over.
Sure, we'd all like all our wants and needs to be met "for free" but it's especially these very innovative services that are the result of a free market. In a central payer system, some bureaucrat would decide how good of a prosthesis is "good enough".
He's an artist, he could've been making celebrity wax statues, but he has chosen to use his art and help provide a unique service for people who need it the most.
If doing your job makes you a hero? Then I must be one cause I do my job everyday as a pilot but I'm not considered a hero...
Unless I "almost" crash then some might think of me as a hero if I got down safely!
Either way this guy helped make someone happy. If I make someone happy when flying then I hope I get posted on a blog site! Who's got a camera, start blogging about the pilot who does his job everyday!
The illgoicaliness of logic. Yes, we can all argue about what is really going on in the picture. But it's not my job, nor do i get paid to do that. It makes me happy a little girl is happy, and thus kisses the old guy. = I feel better.
I've had enough classes to understand the truth of stuff. Old men like can do some terrible things, little girls can be quite obscene. Still, why consider such when it's not needed?
When you look at you old parents being happy, do you immediatly think abbout the the "truth" of them fighting, or even about them being VERY happy = them having sex?
No. No you don't. (hopefully).
This leads to two conclusions:
1. By bringing such up, you feel smarter/brighter/realer then those that are made happy and want to PROVE such to the world, b/c you consider by the way NO ONE has thought of that concept.
2. Or your slightly off kilter, and you tend to look for the bad "truth" of a matter... even if it's not there.
Either way, I also find it "cute", regardless of f he's getting paid or not.

Thank you - that really made my day :) It's nice to know people are still out there being kind to one another.
With all the bad news that we hear daily, it's nice to see a photo essay of the good that also go on around us, but is rarely reported. -- cm
This man isn't a doctor. He is a retired CIA employee who was training in disguises. When he retired, he decided to do this.

I don't care if he is a retired sewer sucker! he made a little girls life better. end of story.
In today's day and age, if you do your job, you're called a "hero".
